It is protected by the oil which avoids the friction of all the important parts ... (cylinder / piston / shaft / crankshaft ...), once passed through the engine, the oil is sent to the filter before passing back in the engine!

The filter must therefore keep your oil in impeccable condition, all without leaving filings, impurities ... and without obstructing the circuit!
